Gene Genie

I can't help being angry. It's a genetic mutation.

I can't help being angry. It's a genetic mutation.

Just hearing the word ‘pro-active’ is enough to get my heckles up. Not only is the ‘pro’ redundant for the everyday use most people put it to, but the word also has another specific meaning, that I quite like.

Dr. Viktor Emil Frankl, used the word proactive to describe a person who took responsibility for his or her life, rather than looking for causes in outside circumstances or other people. Frankl stressed the importance of courage, perseverance, individual responsibility and awareness of the existence of choices, regardless of the situation or context.

I picture a day soon to come where all remaining proactive people are dead (or have left in spaceships) and no-one is responsible for anything.

Your kill someone?

I have a genetic mutation that makes me aggressive!*

You’re a drug addict?

It’s a disease!

You cheat and steal from your the tax payer?

I neeeeeeed it! Plus it’s your fault for not catching me. Plus I didn’t know it was illegal. Plus…look over there, it’s the BNP.

You can’t get a job?

It’s [bankers/immigrants/government/economists/teachers] that are to blame.

You fail at everything?

I’m unlucky.

You go to hell?

It was pre-destiny. Plus god is a cunt.

* That didn’t stop them attacking The Hulk with tanks and bombs did it.
